Beyond the Gaze:
Towards an Ecology of the Senses between Visual and Sound Arts.

INTERSCAPE is the outcome of a year of research and artistic production carried out within INPA — International Network of the Polytechnics of the Arts — an initiative funded by NextGenerationEU (PNRR) and coordinated by the Politecnico delle Arti di Bergamo.

Visual artists, composers and musicians have worked in close collaboration from the earliest stages, creating works in which sound and image do not simply run alongside one another but shape each other — drawing from distinct disciplines an unprecedented expressive synthesis.

The protagonist is landscape: a field of tension between what we see and what we hear, between the memory of a place and its possible transformation.

Theoretical Contributions

In the spring and summer of 2025, three interdisciplinary research groups, composed of professors and researchers from the Italian partner institutions, began the theoretical phase of the project. Each group produced a guiding document: an essay outlining the state of the art, accompanied by an annotated bibliography.

These texts provided the conceptual foundation for all subsequent stages of the project, from the Summer School to the production of the artworks featured in the exhibition across GAMeC, Palazzo della Libertà, and the Politecnico delle Arti – Accademia G. Carrara di Bergamo.
